Wedding Hair Tips To Look Your Best On Your Big Day

It’s understandable for a bride to want to look her absolute best on her wedding – hopefully her forever day. After all, your wedding is supposed to be one of if not the best and most important day of your life. And after you have found “the dress” and other things that you will wear on the big day, the next thing that you need to take care of is your looks, starting with your hair.

They say that a woman’s hair is her crowning glory so it’s just natural that you spend some time planning how you would like your hair to be on your wedding day. It can become overwhelming. There’s a feeling that this is a one-shot deal, hit or miss kind of thing (and it should be, right?). But the pressure to look the best can be too much for many brides. So this article aims to list some pressure off by offering wedding hair tips that can make you absolutely stunning when you walk down the aisle.

Take care of your hair’s health

Healthy hair is beautiful hair. So if you still have some time before your wedding, then you should spend time taking care of your health. Before you even think of what hairstyle you should have, you need to make sure that your hair is healthy. There are many ways you can improve your hair’s health. But what you need to know is that what you do on the inside is just as or probably more important than what you do on the outside. So this means that you need to make sure that you’re getting all the important nutrients that keep the hair healthy. And if you think that your diet is lacking in nutrients, then you should seriously consider taking vitamin and mineral supplements.

Of course, taking vitamin and mineral supplements is not a quick fix. Ideally, you should’ve been taking care of your nutrition all your life. At the very least, you should take care of it several months before your wedding.

Apart from making sure that you get all the necessary vitamins and minerals, you should also avoid getting stressed. Stress can actually affect hair health and even cause hair loss. So avoid stress-inducing situations and practice relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga.

Get a haircut a month before the wedding

Many experts advise brides to get a haircut a month before their weddings. This is to give your hair some time to grow just in case you’re not happy with the haircut. And as far as the haircut itself is concerned, brides should not be too experimental. They can be experimental right after the wedding but definitely not before. This is the time that you should be prudent with your haircut. If your wedding is still a year away then you can go for an extreme change. But if there’s less than a year before the big day, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Don’t go crazy with hair color

Experts also agree that brides should not experiment on hair color if their wedding is just a few weeks away. The ideal time for you to decide on hair color is if your wedding is at least six weeks away. This should be enough time for the color to settle in and for you to determine if the color is the one you want or not. And if you still don’t have a dress, then six weeks will be enough time for you to choose a dress that would go with your hair color. Ideally, however, the dress should come before the hair.

Choosing a hairstyle and stylist

There’s an important reason why you should choose a wedding dress months ahead of your wedding. And it’s to use the dress as a guide or basis for all the other aspects of your wedding. You can use your dress to help you decide what kind of hairstyle is best suited for that special day. Try to look at the silhouette of the dress and imagine what kind of hairstyle would go with it.  As far as the choice of hairstylist is concerned, you need to do some research. You need to make sure that you are 100% comfortable with the stylist who is going to work on your hair for your wedding. Let prospects know what you want and then gauge from their response if they seem confident that they can execute what you want and more importantly if you trust that they will deliver it.  Nicole Hudson is a wedding hair specialist with over 30 years as an internationally trained hairstylist.  She was a finalist in the 2020 Brides Choice awards.
